How to Lift a Truck
One important distinction to note when discussing lifted trucks is the difference between lifting and leveling.
Many pickup trucks are tilted slightly forward, with the ground clearance slightly higher in the back to make the ride level when the bed is loaded. When the suspension is altered to change this, it’s referred to as leveling.
On the other hand, lifting is when the suspension is raised on both the front and rear of the truck, improving overall ground clearance.
There are several ways to do this.
- Body Lift: involves placing a spacer directly between the frame and body mounts to make space for larger tires. It helps maintain the original ride feel.
- Spacer Lift: while a spacer is used in this method of lifting trucks, it’s placed in between the suspension and the mounting for the suspension.
- Air Suspension: a relatively easy way to get an extra couple inches, this method can get more costly when trying to lift higher.
